Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart of “The Chainsmokers”

Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart are members of the musical duo called The Chainsmokers. The type of music they play is a form of music that goes well with dancing. They use a lot of electronic generated music in their songs. They add a certain human element to their music and they don’t want to be looked at as just a couple of DJ’S sitting behind a console and coming up with random beat music. They want to make their brand of dance music stand out and they try to personalize it with their own thoughts and feelings. In a form of music that is many times sterile of emotions they want to assert emotion into it.

Alex Pall practiced as a hobby being a DJ when he was growing up. He was able to find some work at the time in New York City but he looked at it as a part time thing and not a full time career. Over time this began to change and he began to take his music career more seriously. His manager introduced him to Andrew Taggart and they saw that they could work together and that is how the music duo got started.

Andrew Taggart liked electronic music before it became main streamed. He didn’t let this stop him from moving forward. As it became more popular it helped to encourage him. He knew that he was on the right path to something possibly big. When he first met Alex they knew right away that they would be a good fit for each other. The two began to practice every day in Andrew’s apartment and eventually it all came together. They were very insightful as to what was working in the music scene and also what wasn’t working. They were both very ambitious and bent on becoming a success. They both went on a journey in which they pushed themselves musically. They didn’t want to look at this as just being a job. It was to be something fun to do that also paid their bills and that is just what has happened to The Chainsmokers.

The Chainsmokers Talk About Their Edgy New Single “Sick Boy”

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years you know who the Chainsmokers are. Mixing pop with EDM beats the duo of DJ/Producers Alex Pall and Andrew “Drew” Taggart have racked up hit after hit: from “Roses” to “Don’t Let Me Down” to “Closer” to “Paris” to their collaboration with Coldplay “Something Just Like This.” In addition to releasing pop hits, the pair have found financial success performing. They have recently signed an exclusive deal with Wynn Nightlife in Las Vegas, and Forbes estimates the group have pulled in $38 Million in 2017 alone.

Forbes caught up with the band recently to talk about their new single “Sick Boy,” which has a decidedly darker tone than their previous efforts. Mixing an anthemic beat with acoustic piano chops, and booming vocals belting out dark lyrics, the song builds to a crescendo, as most Chainsmokers songs do, climaxing in the chorus “I am the. I am the… I am the sick boy.”

Lead singer Andrew Taggert explains that the music and lyrics were influenced by current events: “I think that’s the tone of society right now. Our stuff is always a reflection of what’s going on in our lives and the world around us.” Find More Information Here.

In fact, “Sick Boy” is just the first of what will be a bunch of new music to be released soon. It will also mark the first time that the group will be recording with outside producers. Alex Pall explains what these outside producers will bring to the table for the next slew of Chainsmokers songs: “We’re going to complement each other very well, because they have a direction or a vibe that we’re not normally going for and we can put our spin on it, whatever that may be.”

Taggert sums up the new music by saying: “We/Chainsmokers want to keep pushing the envelope and that means you have to take risks and push your music out of its comfort zone.”

For these Grammy Award-winning artists their new music will only take them higher.

Alex Pall Is Not Just A DJ, He Is A Songwriter

The Chainsmokers broke out into the mainstream with hit single, “#Selfie” back in 2014. Since then they have enjoyed success with singles placing on Billboards Top 100 list, and a Grammy win for Best Dance Recording. Their recent release, “Closer”, a track featuring up-and-comer Halsey. As is common with most in the DJ spectrum, vocalists are used to accompany electronic background by the artists. However, “Closer” also features vocals by Andrew Taggert, one half of The Chainsmokers. This added element is just one more example of the band’s personalization of their music. A music that has quite a following.

Singing with their own music is not the only difference the pair brings to their chosen genre. Their performances are more like performances, instead of just standing unseen behind a table. They don’t hide their faces like Deadmou5 and actually attempt to have a little showmanship. For Alex Pall, the other half of The Chainsmokers, success is the result of hard work. He and Taggart push themselves to excel, their partnership fueled by a combination of the same core values. In an interview, he explained the modification to a more forefront style of performance an attempt to stay relevant. As they have become quite a sensation the duo feels as though it is easy to lose relevance. According to Taggart, the music business moves fast. “You want to keep trying new things” Pall said. In an industry filled with millions of artists whose music can sound very similar, it takes great pains to stand out. Pall attributes that trait must be paired with the ability to engage the audience.

Another thing Alex Pall believes sets his music apart is the fact that it is his music. Many DJ’s use other people’s music, leaving the songwriting to others while they own craft the electronic artwork behind it. They either write the whole thing or form a guiding hand. Starting out the duo did their own share of remixing, but Pall believes the fact that they write their own songs is the defining point that keeps them on top. Smoking Hot: Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers is an American DJ/production music-making phenomenon comprised of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart. The EDM-pop duo bolted into worldwide fame with “#Selfie” in 2014, which hit the top twenty single mark in several countries. The Chainsmokers’ music fuses streams of indie, dance beats, pop, hip-hop, and expertly crafted electronic soundscapes into cool rifts of smoking sound. Since hitting success with “Roses” and “Don’t Let Me Down,” the duo has added a new dimension to their work with Taggart, one half of the duo, adding his singing to their crowd-rousing sound beginning with the single “Closer,” in which Halsey also performs.

In her conversation with the duo in Interview, the journalist Mathias Rosenzweig commented that she considered it to be unique for a DJ-based performance group “to sing on your own songs, especially about your real lives.” The Chainsmokers are moving into an autobiographical territory, sharing their stories and changing it up as artists, DJs, producers, and entertainment impresarios. The duo is crafting a personal approach that enhances and expands the group’s extraordinary gifts as “beat crafters,” according to Rosenzweig. Visit This Page for more information.

Alex Pall explains that the duo infuses their songs with their interests, passions, and experiences to make them authentic. The group engages with songwriters, and their process is collaborative. The music is autobiographical, telling Pall and Taggart’s stories in a way that is intelligent, personal, and eminently danceable. (Read Pall’s interview with Interview Magazine: The Chainsmokers)

The Chainsmokers have traveled all around the globe in service to their sound several times. Pall explains how vital it is to him that the band establishes an emotional connection with their audiences. “So, we don’t care what you look like or how old you are, how young you are, it’s just that our music makes you feel a certain way.” As dedicated musicians and DJs working to push themselves as they grow artistically, the award-winning band The Chainsmokers are continually expanding the boundaries of presentation, musicianship, and performance. “So for us, it’s all about being on the forefront of pushing new boundaries and giving people new experiences.”
